Popular Albion defender Joel Veltman is in talks with the club over an extended deal after his current contract was set to expire this summer. Veltman has racked up nearly 200 appearances for Brighton, spanning across three managers in just about six years.
Joel signed for Albion in 2020 after leaving his boyhood club, Ajax, for a fee of just 900k and has since become a real cult hero amongst fans. One of the biggest bargains in the league’s history? Without a doubt!
The news will come as relief to many fans, especially those who are close to the foundation. Joel is very close with the Albion community and has done some fantastic work with it, not only a consistently strong member of the Brighton squad but also a fantastic human being.
From a squad point of view, it is crucial with the young players we have that we keep as much experience and older players as possible after already (sadly) losing James Milner (retired), Adam Webster and Solly March (out of contract).
Joel is a big part of the senior establishment in the squad; let’s hope he sees his future with us amid links back to the Netherlands.
