Albion supporters are eagerly awaiting the first real glimpse of the club’s exciting new Greek duo, Stefanos Tzimas and Charalampos “Babis” Kostoulas. Encouragingly, both took important steps forward in their preparation for what promises to be a demanding Premier League campaign.

Who actually are the Greek lads?

Tzimas was the first to arrive, signing in February from FC Nürnberg.

Described by head coach Fabian Hürzeler as an “out-and-out centre-forward with a natural ability to score goals”, the 19-year-old has already been entrusted with the iconic No. 9 shirt following João Pedro’s departure, an early sign of the club’s confidence in him.

Kostoulas followed a few months later, joining from Olympiacos in a deal worth just under £30 million. Still only 18, his transfer fee reflects both his immense talent and the club’s ambition. Hürzeler has promised fans that he will “give us different attacking options” as the season unfolds.

That attacking depth was clearly lacking in our Premier League opener against Fulham, when only Brajan Gruda and Danny Welbeck were available to change the game from the bench. While others can fill advanced roles, the addition of Tzimas and Kostoulas can’t come soon enough, though consistent involvement is likely still a few weeks away.

Both youngsters saw their pre-season plans disrupted by injuries at the end of last term, limiting their ability to hit the ground running. Tzimas has already featured briefly in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wolfsburg, while both played a part in Albion U21s’ impressive 4–0 win over West Brom in PL2.

With a Carabao Cup tie against Oxford coming up, we could get our first glimpse sooner than we think. Whilst both players may only see a few minutes from the bench, it would be a great step in the right direction as they get up to speed with their new surroundings.

The club wasted no time in helping fans connect with our new arrivals. We were treated to a fun and light-hearted Q&A during the club’s Marbella training camp, and it revealed plenty of personality. Babis is itching to test himself against Virgil van Dijk, Stefanos seems to be a keen padel player, and Babis has taken a shine to Brighton’s vibrant seafront.

Their good relationship off the pitch was there for all to see, and fans will certainly hope it translates into a successful relationship on it.

Who is Tommy Watson?

The anticipation isn’t limited to our Greek duo. Albion fans are also excited to see Tommy Watson in action.

He endured a rollercoaster of emotions last season with his boyhood club. Initially, the victim of frustration and anger when rumours of his departure were confirmed, Watson silenced the doubters by scoring the crucial goal at Wembley that sealed the Black Cats’ long-awaited return to the Premier League after eight years away.

Having come through the youth ranks at Sunderland, it’s understandable that emotions ran high around his exit. But Watson leaves as a club hero and arrives at the Amex as an exciting prospect, and looks to be a fantastic understudy to Kaoru Mitoma.

Albion had been monitoring Watson for some time before securing his signature earlier this year, and the talented winger already boasts experience with several England youth sides.

Most recently, he featured for the England U19s at this summer’s European Championship, where the young Lions exited at the group stage after being drawn into a tough group of Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway.

Whilst the temptation to throw them straight into the spotlight will be strong, their development must be carefully managed.

With the right management, Stefanos, Babis and Tommy could soon become pivotal figures, not just for the future, but in our push for our targets this season.
