Auxerre have agreed a deal to sign Ibrahim Osman on loan with an option to buy clause, as per Fabrizio Romano.
The option to buy has not been clear on the fee, but the Seagulls paid around £19 million for him in 2024.
One that got away?
Despite the successes of bringing in talented young players over the years, Osman could be the next one for players to leave prematurely.
It wasn’t the most successful loan at Feyenoord last season, but the exciting young winger was used out of positon. Having only signed for the club in January 2024, it could seem to be a move that is slightly early to measure any potential success.
Osman was impressive during the Japanese tour for the Seagulls. His talent was obvious to show he had a high ceiling for the future.
A fast, explosive winger, his stocky build was made up for by his quick feet. Not just out wide, Osman has a great potential to be a central figure in a similar versatile mold to João Pedro, who has just been sold to Chelsea.
Usually players coming through the ‘Right to Dream’ academy via FC Nordsjælland are ones to keep an eye on, but it seems as though that eye will not be in Sussex.
Valentin Barco was the last move similarly, especially while being sold to a club under BlueCo, and after a strong season in 2024/25 in Ligue 1, his future under Liam Rosenior remains to be seen at Strasbourg.
Hopefully, they don’t activate that buy option in the future. After all, their record transfer fee is just €5 million.
