Eiran Cashin is reportedly close to a departure from Brighton, with Birmingham said to be leading the race for the Irish centre-back, according to an exclusive report from The Brighton Base. The report states that it would be a season-long loan with no option to make the move permanent.
What next for Cashin?
The 23-year-old joined Brighton from Championship side Derby County in January in a deal worth around £9m with add-ons, signing a contract for five years. The ball-playing defender struggled for game time since joining Fabian Hürzeler’s side, making only two appearances in the latter stages of the season – vs Aston Villa and Brentford, respectively.

Brighton have reinforced the centre of defence this summer with Diego Coppola and Olivier Boscagli both joining to provide depth and cover for Jan Paul Van Hecke and Lewis Dunk. Igor is still expected to leave despite Adam Webster’s injury earlier in the week which could rule him out for a significant amount of time. The wealth of options and experience ahead means a loan move for the former Derby man makes sense for him and the club.
The regular game time Eiran Cashin should receive in the Championship, alongside fellow Brighton loanee and England U21 international James Beadle, will help stake his claim to more first-team gametime when he returns to Brighton next summer. Assuming the loan move to Birmingham goes ahead, that is.
